Visual Description: [where one can go into as much detail about the visual as they'd like]
Sai carries an unassuming presence, and certainly from looking at him one may assume that he's bland, moody, and uninteresting. However, he uses this appearance to avoid those who would pry into his life. He lets in a select few people and keeps everyone else at arm's length until they build his trust. He generally wears dark colors, usually scarlet or black accented with white or red. He sometimes wears glasses though his vision is fine.
Strengths, Talents, Skills: Blood magic, Knife combat, Hematology
Dislikes, Fears, Flaws: The law and its agents, showing mercy to enemies, Krait. Pirates. He is also hot-tempered, though has learned enough by now that he's starting to figure out when it's best to just shut the hell up.
Alignment: Neutral Evil
Motivations: Personal gain and freedom to pursue unethical research, as well as being fiercely loyal to his guild for essentially saving him from a life on the streets.
Other Unique Details: A life of mostly manual labor, being bullied and beaten, and self-mutilation has rendered Sai somewhat numb to minor pain, though extreme pain will still be felt fully.
Religion/Philosophy: Sai believes in the existence of the gods, but makes no effort to pray to them and makes no assumption that his actions are looked upon favorably by any of them. He believes that the gods have simply ceased to care about the world, and because of that people should be free to do as they see fit without fearing divine wrath.
Sexuality: Demisexual
Public Rumors or knowledge about you:
While the extent of his crimes is completely unknown, in the past he has been accused of being a murderer, though no hard evidence can be found to support the accusation. More recently he is known in the criminal underworld as someone who knows how to contact a secretive group of individuals for nefarious purposes.

Favorite Food(s): Rare steak
Favorite Drink(s): Rum
Favorite Color(s): Red
Childhood:
Sai, or Saihiidra, as he was known to his mother, was born onboard a pirate ship sailing through the oceans south of Kryta. His mother Nirani was a hostage on the ship after she went out one day to talk to a fisherman, was abducted by Krait marauders, and sold to the pirates as a slave. I'm not going to bother sugarcoating the next part so fair warning: Nirani was a sex slave of the pirates for nearly two years, and Sai was the product of the pirate's heinous crimes. Nirani hid Sai to save him from the pirate's sadistic 'hobbies,' but after two years she attempted to jump off the ship and drown herself along with Sai. A passing merchant named Imran Evikka from Triskell Quay rescued her and brought her home with him, although the life she was treated to back in her home village was not much better. Her father, Kang Sadao, had died during her captivity, and her return with a bastard child was not a welcome sight. Imran treated her strictly and refused to take any responsibility for Saihiidra, save for giving him his last name (which Sai would later abandon) to have someone carry on his name, as he was infertile. Eventually, Nirani grew tired of the treatment, and while they remained nominally married, she moved into a different house, taking Sai with her. Sai was five at the time. She only cared for him slightly more than the other villagers. She largely blamed her lot in life on him, as without him she could still at least claim to be pure and innocent. With nowhere else to turn, she became the village prostitute. Sai went to school for a year or two, but refused to go back after being mistreated by the other children, as well as the teacher, for his mother.
He began to practice magic on his own out in the woods. It was here an old hermit living out in the woods discovered the boy and began to train him in necromancy. Sai had a natural talent for it, but wasn't allowed to practice often. Once he drained and absorbed the blood and life force of a cat in front of his mother, naively believing that she would be impressed by his magical ability. Instead, she called him a witch, slapped him, and refused to let him study magic any longer. He lived the next 4 years of his life studying when he could get away with it, and at the insistence of his mother, began working for Imran, who ran the local storehouse. Sai carried barrels of fish all day from the docks to the storehouse.
Adolescence:
As soon as he turned thirteen, he blatantly told his mother that he was going to study necromancy whether she liked it or not. She became angry and upset, but there was nothing she could do about it. The local village boys continued to harass him often (there wasn't much else to do in the village). He lived like this for three more years, until he reached a breaking point: He was carrying a large barrel up a hill when a boy threw a rock at him, hitting him squarely in the head. Sai spilled the fish all over the ground, and the boys, afraid of the storehouse owner's infamous rage, ran for it. When Imran came across Sai and the fish spilled everywhere, he flew into a fit of madness and began to beat Sai, worsening the wound he already had. When Imran noticed the pool of blood now forming underneath his stepson, he came to his senses and screamed for a doctor. But something in Sai had become twisted. He seemed not to be terribly shocked or even surprised. He instead dipped his hand in the pool of blood, and making full eye contact with his stepfather, proceeded to lick the blood off of his hand, going back for more when his hand was clean. Imran instead ran to find the Seraph. The Seraph maintained that drinking one's own blood, however disgusting, is not a criminal offense, but beating someone definitely is. Imran was sent to jail for a five year sentence, which he is currently still serving. In his absence, however, Sai was no longer able to work for the fishery, and so he went to go live with the hermit and devote his time to necromancy. On his seventeenth birthday, the old man died in his sleep, and Sai went back to the village to live with his mother again until he could find work. Upon seeing him again, Nirani became terrified and enraged, and the stress on her body, combined with multiple venereal diseases caused her health to rapidly fail and she died a day later.
Young Adult:
Sai found that he felt absolutely nothing over the death of the old man or his own mother. He decided he was leaving the village, but not before leaving them with a 'reward' for their mistreatment. He arranged to meet with a friendly girl named Estela, who was the only villager who had actually tried to get to know him. This proved to be a mistake on her part. Sai met her, kidnapped her, and killed her at the old man's campsite. He absorbed her life force and drained her blood, purifying and drinking much of it, and spilling the rest on the old man's body. He used parts of her body to augment the old man's decaying body and make it look as though he had only recently died. Then he reanimated the girl as a minion, but his skill with death magic was nothing exceptional, and the minion died after only a few minutes. He left the village for good, working for various manual labor and service jobs to make ends meet, though they usually didn't, and he usually got fired when he got caught performing illicit experiments and activities. The Investigators at the crime scene determined that the old man had killed the girl and then killed himself. They assumed Sai had simply ran away after his mother died.
Recently
Several months ago Sai came in contact with one Ludo Demeere, the ghost of an old Krytan necromancer. A deal was struck, and in return for power and information Sai absorbed Ludo into his body. Ludo attempted to transform Sai's body into his old one, but Sai managed to stop the change before it was completed, and sealed the ghost before it could take total control of his body.
Shortly after this, Sai was accepted as a member of the Sanctum, and worked for them as an agent for a time before being promoted to officer rank. During Morrigan's hiatus from activity, he became the acting Shadow, claiming the title in full capacity after Calla's exile. Directly after Calla's exile, He went, accompanied by Morrigan, to investigate a mysterious letter he got from another Krytan ghost. It turned out to be Ludo's rival, who exorcised the spirit from Sai and returned it to the Mists where it belonged. Sai's body returned to normal afterward, except his eyes never regained their original color.
